TERMITE TREATMENTS

Identifying Termites

Termites are soft white-bodied insects that feed on wood. They are considered one of the most destructive pests and has caused billions in damages to business and home owners worldwide annually.  There are three main types of termite species that are known to damage homes and commercial properties in Jamaica:

Formosan/ Subterranean Termites

This type of termite builds its colonies underground, in the soil. They need contact with soil to maintain their moisture levels. A regular source of moisture is critical to a subterranean colony’s survival. They travel from their colonies in shelter tubes in search for food found in wood called cellulose. They feed on cellulose material such as the structural wood found in businesses and homes, wooden fixtures, paper, books and trees

Subterranean termites are the most common and destructive type in Jamaica.

Arboreal/Nasute Termites

Arboreal termites build their large, dark nests on tree trunks or large branches. A tree nest can be larger than a basketball. The nest is made up from a mixture of digested wood and termite feces that hardens into a strong, protective shell.

Drywood termites

This type colonizes in wood above ground. Unlike subterranean termites, they don’t need contact with soil to survive.
